LGAs we give back to
Buildana didn’t start as a Western Sydney builder by accident — Oliver grew up here, learned his trade here, and built the business from a single-ute operation in Fairfield. Fifteen years on, with offices in Fairfield and projects running across the five core Western Sydney LGAs, the region’s success and ours are the same thing. The community work on this page isn’t marketing — it’s how a local business spends some of its surplus when it has one.
Western Sydney has the highest concentration of new building activity in the country, the largest population growth, and one of the youngest demographic profiles. It also has the longest commute times, the most stretched community infrastructure, and a trade workforce that doesn’t have enough apprentices coming through to meet the housing pipeline. The five initiatives below — scholarships, sponsorships, build days, mentoring, charity work and sustainable building practice — are our attempt to push back against the parts of that picture we can actually affect.
The trade scholarship program is the one we’re most committed to. Every year, one young person from Western Sydney gets TAFE fees paid, tools supplied, and a paid placement on a Buildana site for the full year. We pick someone who would otherwise have struggled to fund the start of their trade, and we host them through to qualification. Applications for 2026 are open now — if you know someone, point them at this page.

Trade Scholarship Program
Now Open — Applications for 2026Buildana awards one annual scholarship to an aspiring tradesperson from Western Sydney. The scholarship covers TAFE fees, tools, and a paid placement on a Buildana project. Open to residents of all 28 Sydney LGAs — from Western Sydney heartland (Fairfield, Liverpool, Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Blacktown) through to Parramatta, the Hills, Inner West, North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, Sutherland Shire and the Northern Beaches aged 17–25.

ActiveBuildana proudly sponsors junior sports clubs across Western Sydney. We believe sport builds the same values we live by — teamwork, dedication, and resilience. Current sponsorships include clubs in Fairfield and Liverpool.

QuarterlyEvery quarter, the Buildana crew donates a day of labour to a local community project — whether it's repairing a community hall, building garden beds for a school, or helping a family in need with urgent maintenance work.
Nominate a Project →Sustainable Building Commitment
OngoingWe prioritise sustainable materials and energy-efficient design on every project. All Buildana homes target a minimum 6-star NatHERS rating, and we actively recommend solar, rainwater harvesting, and high-performance insulation to every client.
Apprentice Mentoring
OngoingEvery Buildana project site hosts at least one apprentice. Our experienced tradespeople mentor the next generation with real-world skills — from carpentry and structural work to site safety and project planning.
Charity & Fundraising Support
AnnualBuildana supports select local charities through annual donations and in-kind contributions. We focus on organisations that serve Western Sydney families — particularly housing, youth, and education charities.

About our community work
Who can apply for the Buildana Trade Scholarship?
Residents of any Sydney LGA aged 17 to 25 who’ve enrolled (or are about to enrol) in a Cert III building, plumbing, electrical, carpentry or related trade at any NSW TAFE. We prioritise applicants from the five Western Sydney LGAs we work in most (Fairfield, Liverpool, Cumberland, Canterbury-Bankstown, Blacktown) and applicants who would otherwise have struggled to fund the start of their trade. One scholarship is awarded per year.
What does the scholarship actually cover?
Full TAFE course fees for the duration of the qualification, a $1,500 tools and PPE allowance to get started, and a paid placement on an active Buildana project site for the year. The placement runs alongside TAFE — three days on site, two days at TAFE is typical — so the scholar leaves the year with the qualification, real site time, and money in the bank.
How do I nominate a community project for one of the build days?
Email [email protected] with the project, the organisation behind it (school, community group, hall committee, etc.), and what you need done. We run four build days per year and pick from nominations roughly six weeks ahead. We can’t take on every nomination but every one gets a reply, and we’ll often pass on nominations we can’t do to other Western Sydney builders we know.
What kinds of sponsorships does Buildana support?
Junior sport clubs (under-18s) based in the five core Western Sydney LGAs are our default. We sponsor a small number of clubs each year — currently in Fairfield and Liverpool — with cash sponsorship, uniforms, and field/equipment funding. Applications for the next cycle can be sent to [email protected] with a one-page outline of the club and what the funding would go toward.
Does Buildana donate to charities directly?
Yes, on an annual basis to a small number of selected charities working with Western Sydney families — housing, youth and education focus. We don’t accept unsolicited donation requests (the volume is too high) but charities partnering with us on a community build day or a sponsorship will usually receive an additional financial contribution as part of the partnership.
How does the apprentice mentoring program work?
It’s not a separate program — it’s baked into how every Buildana site runs. Every active project hosts at least one apprentice, paired with an experienced tradesperson from day one. The apprentice gets real-world site time across structural work, finishes, scheduling and client interaction; the tradesperson is paid an additional mentoring loading. Apprentices are sourced from TAFE NSW partner campuses and the Master Builders Apprenticeship Centre.
